Zee Zen Pearl Cove Ruler of the Sea Review

Zee Zen Pearl Cove Ruler of the Sea
100 % cotton / 300 g/m2
10 months and 22 pounds

My first thoughts on Zee Zen Pearl Cove were that I haven't seen a pattern quite like this before, and that the texture was incredible, giving the wrap a 3D effect. The periwinkle shade, Ruler of the Sea, is such a soft clear color, very easy in my opinion for many skin tones to pull off. I appreciate that the wrap comes in a handy tote bag. I also love to support a Canadian wrap company. Pauline, the owner, designs and finishes the wraps, which are made of Belgian textiles, in Canada.

In hand this wrap is a tactile delight! The texture signified this was going to be a grippy wrap, but it also gives the wrap a spongy feel. Pearl Cove is also a narrower wrap, one where I could tell I'd need to be precise when wrapping.

Pearl Cove is a very special marine inspired design. It's complex, yet not a design that is going to compete with other patterns, but compliment them. I wore this wrap with stripes, etc and was always pleased how it just worked with almost anything.

I wore Pearl Cove most in a sometimes sloppy double hammock and still my wrap job was always solid and comfortable. Because the wrap is more narrow (think Kokoro) more care is required when back wrapping bigger babies and toddlers. I also used this wrap in a FWCC, and Shepherd's with 2 leg passes. There were a few times I struggled with second passes on back carries because of how grippy it is, but I was always able to make it work. The weave is complex, and the wrap medium thick, but mouldable while wrapping. I received this tester mostly broken in, but it did need a little more work to become truly floppy. Lovers of cush should also take note, this wrap was very cushy and comfy on my shoulders, nothing diggy here. The texture for me meant more work wrapping, but once I wrapped no adjustments were needed even for a long period of time like 2 hours and the support for my 22 pound baby was there too.

Zee Zen's Pearl Cove is very cushy and has a nice spongy texture because it is a double weft. It reminds me of some of the denser Pavo wraps I've tried, but doesn't feel as pull prone due to the shorter floats. It's a soft wrap, but leans to more supportive rather than super soft in my opinion. This wrap will appeal to slightly more experienced wrappers and those with heavier babies and toddlers. I most enjoyed Pearl Cove in a double hammock, which was so solid and supportive in this wrap. I can also see Pearl Cove as a fantastic shorty for older babies and toddlers. Early on you can wrap with almost any wrap, but it's a special wrap to be considered toddler worthy! I did a quick up with my two year old, and it was a toddler prison for my little man that doesn't much like to be wrapped. The support and texture that gives a grip that requires no adjustment are the two strong qualities of Pearl Cove.

Thank you Pauline for the opportunity to test!
